Easy-to-Use Touchscreen Interface
One of Garmin's core beliefs is to continually enhance the simplicity of the user experience. The nüvi on-screen menus are logically arranged, with clearly labeled, colorful icons, making it easy to enter data and get to the information you need quickly.

Navigate with Ease
nüvi 1690 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator North America NT street maps and millions of points of interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, ATMs and more, with map data provided by NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. Enter a destination on the touch screen, and nüvi takes you there with 2-D or 3-D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. Text to speech enhances standard sat-nav voice guidance by speaking the names of places and roads. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. In addition, nüvi 1690 accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs.

  • Includes detailed information such as turn restrictions, roundabout guidance, speed categories and other navigation features.

Know the Lane Before It's Too Late
No more guessing which lane you need to be in to make an upcoming turn. Lane assist guides you to the correct lane for an approaching turn or exit, making unfamiliar intersections and exits easy to navigate. It realistically displays road signs and junctions on your route along with arrows that indicate the proper lane for navigation.

Junction View takes it a step further, giving you a photo-realistic screen that shows you both the road detail as well as the signs as you will see them on the road.

The 1690 automatically sorts multiple destinations to provide an efficient route for errands or deliveries.

Pedestrian Navigation
New to the nüvi series is Public Transit--navigate using buses, tramway, metro and suburban rail systems with optional CityXplorer content. Downloadable CityXplorer data and city guides are available for purchase and download from garmin.com for many cities.

Where Am I?
Keep track of yourself and your car with nüvi 1690. Just tap "Where Am I?" to find the closest hospitals, police stations, fuel stations, nearest address and intersection. Also see your exact latitude and longitude coordinates. nüvi 1690 even remembers where you parked. It automatically marks your position when you remove it from the windshield mount, so you can navigate with nüvi on foot and find your way back to your vehicle. Perfect for unfamiliar spots and crowded lots such as amusement parks, stadiums and malls.

HotFix Satellite Prediciton
Garmin's HotFix capability automatically calculates and stores satellite locations, greatly reducing satellite acquisition time so that you can turn the unit on and get going. With HotFix, your nüvi remembers the position of all satellites it is tracking when you turn it off, and calculates their movements in order to predict where they should be the next time you turn it on. HotFix can predict satellite positions for up to 3 days after the device was last turned off.

ecoRoute
With this feature, drivers can view suggestions for fuel-efficient navigation, conserving both money and fuel:

  • Save Gas and Money
Now more than ever, we're all looking for ways to conserve both money and fuel. Whether we're taking fewer trips or carpooling with family and friends, saving resources is a top priority. It was that thinking that led to the creation of ecoRoute--our free software update for compatible nüvi products that allows users to find more fuel efficient routes when navigating and even track their fuel usage. With ecoRoute, you may be able to save gas and money by adopting smarter driving habits and finding more fuel-efficient routes.

  • Select Fuel-efficient Routes
With ecoRoute, users will have a "less fuel" option as a routing preference. When selected, nüvi will determine if more fuel efficient routes exist based upon road speed data and vehicle acceleration data for a given route.

  • Get Fuel and Mileage Reports
Through ecoRoute's Fuel Report and Mileage Report, drivers can focus on their habits even when they're not behind the wheel. Fuel Report tracks fuel usage over time, and Mileage Report monitors mileage and fuel usage on a per-trip basis. In addition, Mileage Report makes it easy for business travelers to keep track of distance traveled for company reimbursements. You'll have a detailed report for each trip and the miles driven. You can also customize your nüvi by entering your car's fuel economy and the current price of gas.

Search for locations on Google Maps or Mapquest, then transfer the addresses directly to your Garmin GPS navigator.

Navigate by Photo with Garmin Connect Photos
Using Garmin's Connect Photos Web site, you can choose from millions of geo-located photos provided by Google's Panoramio photo sharing community and download them to the nüvi for a richer navigation experience using pictures as a guide.

  • Choose from Panoramio's collection of photos from around the world.
  • Easy to use interface displays photos on Google Maps.
  • Search for photos by location name or map area boundary.
  • Transfer photos directly from Garmin Connect to device with the Garmin Communicator.
  • View photos in Google Earth.
  • Supports Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox 2+, Safari 3+ on Windows and Mac.

Take It With You
The nüvi 1690 sports a sleek, slim design and fits comfortably in your pocket or purse. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or foot.

  • Speed limit indicator--unit displays speed limits for most major roads

Amazon.com Product Description Distance to the front, center, and back and shot distance are delivered to the palm of your hand with the Yardage Pro XG Golf GPS device. Designed to make your game smarter for fewer strokes, the compact Yardage Pro unit stores up to 10 courses with hole-by-hole detail, and its large 2.1-inch display with a backlight makes reading and accessing distances effortless. Finally, the Yardage Pro is waterproof so you can use it in any weather conditions without worrying.

The Yardage Pro GPS is accurate within two yards, offering the best accuracy available for the game--and the same degree of accuracy as any other golf GPS devices on the market. Unlike a laser rangefinder, the Yardage Pro GPS allows you to determine the distance to objects that are not in your line of sight, providing you with distances to the green that are difficult to get with laser rangefinders. With rangefinders you can overshoot the green and struggle to hold the rangefinder steady. The Yardage Pro GPS gives you immediate feedback so you won't have to worry about holding up play and your concentration can remain on the game.

The Bushnell Yardage Pro allows you to store up to 10 golf courses at a time on one device. A membership to iGolf.com gives you access to the world's largest golf course database, allowing you to download up to 100 courses yearly, that all can be synced to your Yardage Pro through a simple USB connection. The Bushnell Yardage Pro offers you the birds eye view of the course so your play can be more deliberate, accurate, and successful.

Using Bushnell Yardage Pro Sync and the iGolf Database:
Bushnell and iGolf have partnered to provide Bushnell Yardage Pro users with the world's largest, most accurate database of GPS course files available. A free membership on iGolf.com enables you to track your handicap, catch up on golf headlines, and find reviews of your favorite course. A paid membership with a low one-year subscription fee allows you to download and save up to 100 GPS course files annually.

A one-year membership contract with iGolf allows you to download and save any available golf courses onto your computer to use with the Yardage Pro. Since all golf course files are stored on your computer you can easily swap course files on and off the Yardage Pro as needed. The currency of the information on the iGolf website is updated regularly with any renovations or changed holes so you have access to the most up to date information possible.

Locate golf courses on the iGolf database using a simple search tool--just enter one or two keywords within the course name to produce a list of results. An advanced search option is available to narrow results further as necessary. After you have located your golf course in the iGolf database, you will see the GPS Enabled area of the screen. The program will let you know if Front/Center/Back measurements, Custom Points with measurements for the hazards on the course, and Course Images for each individual green are available.

Transferring downloaded golf courses to your Yardage Pro from your PC is easy. Simply open the Bushnell Sync Application, connect the Yardage Pro to the USB port on the computer, and power up the unit. Select the golf course that you want to transfer off of the computer, click send, and you are done.

Reviews

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value for a Basic GPS Unit, October 24, 2009
The most important issue when selecting a golf GPS unit is the availability and accuracy of course data. Many of the more advanced (and more expensive) units (e.g. uPro Golf GPS by Callaway Golf and iGolf GPS Caddie II) require a much more detailed level of course data in order for you to benefit from the expense. I found that this level of data was available for none of the courses I play regularly, so I decided to go for a simpler solution.

The next most important consideration is whether (and how easily) you can "map" your own points on a course. Not all of even the more expensive units allow this and while it is somewhat less likely that you will need to do so with these units, I can assure you that even the best mapping data will occasionally be inaccurate or missing altogether. This can really reduce the value of a GPS unit on courses that you play frequently.

I very nearly returned the Neo because of some short-comings in this area - specifically, you cannot "delete" a custom point if they provide it in their data download. This is truly a silly restriction. You can "override" an existing point by registering a different point, but why not allow a simple deletion? One of the holes I downloaded had a "pre-programmed" custom point for a creek that did not exist ! Another annoyance is that, while they provide the ability to define your own "names" (labels) for your custom points, this must be done as part of the procedure for registering the point on the course. Creating a label is a cumbersome process which simply takes too long while actually playing a hole. It would be so much easier if you could use their "default" label to do the initial mapping on the course and then edit the label back at home after the round.

In the end, I decided to keep the unit as it is mostly accurate (+/- 5 yards), it is very compact but with a legible display (even for us older folks), it is fast to start up and the battery is rechargeable with a very good life. Mainly though, I kept it because the price is very reasonable.

My final comment is that you really need both a simple GPS unit like the Neo AND a simple rangefinder to get the precise distance to the pin location. If your course has large greens, the pin location "indicator" for the day is usually not precise enough for the final approach shot. Maybe one day someone will come out with a combination unit !

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the price, June 24, 2009
This is a great unit for the price. It does what it says it will do. There are plenty of golf courses available for the 34 buck fee from igolf and you can download 100 in a year. I only found one yardage off on one hole of the courses where I have used it.
I mapped distances to hazards on various holes on my home course and it works great.
I played with a friend recently who had a golf guru and one who had a golf buddy gps. They are neat with a lot more features then this one, but then they cost over twice as much. Their yardages matched mine on the bushnell neo. I am very satisfied and I got it for about $129 from a partner of Amazon OpticsPlanet.

The only reason I did not give this a 5 star rating is that the manual was not well written and the software instructions were incomplete. But, this should not be a deterrent to buying one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product and FUN to use!, August 18, 2009
This GPS gives the perfect amount of information for the everyday golfer, and even for more advanced players. It is easy to use and set up. I love the fact that I can dowload up to 100 courses, and I don't have to renew my membership each year unless I need a different course. One of the things I really like, is that you can see how far you actually hit the ball (I'm sure all GPS systems are like that...but NOT rangefinders!) One final note...I'm not the type of person that likes having something clipped to my belt, like a cell phone. However, this is how i carry this GPS, and I can't even tell its there. It's so slim and light, you dont even notice it until you need it. Great product, at half the price of many GPS systems or even rangefinders.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mac Users Beware, November 25, 2009
I was very happy to see that this product "is fully compatible with Intel processor Macs running OS X 10.4.4 or later". But, read on! I joined iGolf and downloaded three golf courses where I often play. The Neo Sync program which accomplishes this transfer opened properly. However the SEND function produced no result. After at least 45 minutes of reviewing all the instructions and trying all I could think of, I called Bushnell for assistance. (As an aside, I waited twenty eight minutes to reach a technician). I explained the issue and then mentioned that I use an Intel Mac using OS X 10.6.2. The tech said, oh, that's your problem. Apple made some changes to its version of Java and it will not work now with our unit. So, what am I to do? He said he thinks someone may be working on it. He said it could be weeks before it is fixed. When I said I really wanted more specific input on who was working on it (Bushnell of Apple or both) and when I might be able to use this unit, he said no further info was available. He suggested I call Apple. So here I am with a useless device and having spent $35 for an iGolf membership to download courses. By the way, I am writing this while I wait for a Bushnell tech; I am calling again for an update. I placed the call 33 minutes ago! Wish me luck and if you use a Mac, you might want to avoid this unit for now. (11/12/09)

4-0 out of 5 stars Works As Described, July 22, 2009
I've used this device twice now. The software setup could be improved. I was able to figure it out even though it would not install on my (D:) drive as I requested. It would still default to the (C:\Program Files)folder. It does allow you to install on multiple computers though. As for the device's operation, it was spot-on consistant with a fellow golfer's much more expensive SkyCaddie GPS. Course downloads are simple and I have not found a course yet that I play that is not available. I doubt that I will ever download 100 courses. It would be nice if I could bank my course credits and use them anytime to download courses, and then be required to pay an additional $35 for another 100 courses. It's hard to predict what courses I might play during the next 11 months, but for the price, I don't think it can be beat right now by anything else on the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars great, inexpensive little unit, November 30, 2009
I purchased the iGolf branded unit last February, not long before it was rebranded to Bushnell. I used the unit 2 or 3 times and then dropped it on a cart path (butterfingers) and broke it. I called support, got a RMA and sent it back. Sure, it cost me return UPS but I told them that I had dropped it and they replaced the unit anyway. I've used this unit for about 40 rounds this year, at numerous courses and the distances are usually spot on with fairway markers. Even when off, not more that 5 yds. Those that complain about not knowing of the membership cost obviously did not do their homework. You can download 100 courses in a year for the membership, and they are yours to keep. I found one course in my area that had not been mapped. I submitted it to support and they had the course available within 1 month. Not too shabby. Sure, this thing is a very basic unit and is priced accordingly. But for guys like me (14 index), this is a great unit. If I played in the fairway more often, I probably wouldn't need a gps, but trying to find distance from the rough was a challenge and this little unit fits the bill.

4-0 out of 5 stars GPS Works Well, Synch Software has problems, May 27, 2010
The java based synch software will not run on my 64 bit machine. There is no patch or alternative software version available.
I did install the synch software on an old laptop running XP with only a couple problems. You pay $35 for one year of downloads with a max of 100 courses from off iGolf. They look like simple csv files derived from Google Earth. The iGolf site is a bit difficult to navigate but you can get the hang of it.
So now you have a bunch of courses on your hard drive, you pick 10 you would like on your device. From then on you can move downloaded courses to and from your device without logging into the iGolf page so you can continue to use them when the subscription ends.
Once the device is loaded it works like a charm. The GPS chip set is the best, I work in the industry and it has real good sensitivity and is used by top quality auto GPS units. The Neo attaches nicely to my belt and does not get in the way of my swing. The belt clip makes it easy to remiove so i can read it (without my reading glasses!) and put back when finished. Everywhere I go I know the distances to the pin. You must press the up arrow to switch to the new hole, it does nto "auto-detect" the closest hole. The current hole is displayed. My friend has a Sky type GPS and also has a bad slice. He spends a lot of time in the wrong fairway due to his slice and his GPS adds insult to injury by guessing he's on another hole and giving bad advise. This Neo is simple, just use the up arrow between holes and you're good. The rechargeable battery lasts a real long time, 4 rounds for me. It uses the same mini usb port my Magellan auto GPS uses (Same chipset too) so I can charge it in the car using that cable. If you are off the course it reads 999 yards. If it stays in 999 yards more than 20 min it auto-shuts off.
So, unit works GREAT, Software download site is not for the PC challenged type users but OK for most reading this (if you're here you're pc literate). I recommend visiting the Bushnell site and downloading the synch software and try installing it before you pruchase. I get an error when the java software tries to open a browser connection to iGolf. A terrific unit on the course, pita when connected to the PC. I do like it and do not regret my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars I am thrilled!!, June 26, 2009
Simple set up and easy operation. Turn it on as I get to the course and I have yardage before I am on the first tee. I carry it in my pocket and it does not loose the satellites. Best golf aid I have purchased.

5-0 out of 5 stars GPS comparison, April 10, 2010
This gps is just as accurate as my golfing
buddies more expensive units. It is easy to program and use. The only downside is that the website for downloading golf courses may have only a few of the course in your area. Don't let that stop you from purchasing a Neo because programming the local courses is so simple. Just don't hold up the group behind you while doing it.

PS. You may find as I did that the
biggest benefit is inside 100 yards.
You may not be as good as you think
at judging the distance to the pin
on these less than full swing
shots.

1-0 out of 5 stars NO STARS!! Buyer Beware Horrible Company!, July 12, 2009
We had our golf GPS for about 2 weeks. Then, the readings on it went wacky, and everything was incorrect: the yardage, the greens, even the wrong courses! So we called Bushnell, they had us pay them $10, and we sent our GPS in for repair.

Well, it's now been FIVE FREAKING WEEKS and we called multiple times. This week they told us that the status would be "updated" on Monday, and they had NO FURTHER INFORMATION. When we pressed for more information, he said, "Can't tell ya more, sorry".

Sorry??? We've missed nearly the entire golf season because of these incompetent people, and they can't give us more info about our item?? Ridiculous. I hope they either hire people who can actually repair the junk they sell, or just close their doors and stop selling J U N K to good people. So now they have our $300, and we have absolutely nothing but aggrevation.

Spend a bit more, buy from a decent company. NOT BUSHNELL!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars worth it!, February 23, 2010
Just finished 1st round with my new G3. It took about 5 minutes for it to get a GPS signal the first time, but performed like a champ once it did. The scorecard feature is great and really easy to use. I stood on the red, 100 yard marker in the middle of the fairway on 3 holes and each time it read from 99 to 101. 1% margin of error is better than I experienced with my old skycaddie. The touch screen was calibrated perfectly. I had no trouble with the cursor. Using rechargeable duracells, it shows about 60% power remaining after 18 holes. I'll carry an extra set of batteries just in case. This is replacing a skycaddie sg2.5 that had the screen go out after about 6 months. I won't miss paying for their yearly subscription either. As long as your favorite courses are available, I'd highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars Par or Sub Par? That is the Question., June 10, 2010
I purchased the Garmin G3 for only two reasons. The price and lack of subscription. I got more than I paid for. The features of the G3 definitely give the average golfer the best bang for his (or her) buck. I read many reviews on many different GPS systems. Initially, the GPS that I was leaning toward most is the SkyCaddie SGX, but when I considered the price and subscription cost of the SGX the Garmin became that much more attractive. I learned my lesson trying to go from an automotive Garmin GPS to another brand. Just wasn't the same. Not only did I read the reviews, but I went into the local golf stores to get a good idea of the user ability and to compare the reviews I ahd read of both the SGX and the G3.

Many of the negative reviews for the Garmin focus on the screen and the glare. While the system can "maybe" have a little glare at times, it is nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be based upon the reviews I read. I have no problem reading the screen and knowing the location of hazards. For people who are vision impaired or would normally have to wear reading glasses to see particular colors or fonts, this may make reading the screen a little more difficult.

I greatly enjoy being able to navigate through the courses prior to arriving at the course. To some extent I already know which clubs I plan to use for each hole. It doesn't always work out that way, but arriving at the course knowing you'll tee the first hole for a 4 hybrid (my 190 yard club) because of the hazard at 205 yards builds a little starter confidence.

Inputting in the scores and players are also relatively easy. I particularly like moving the pin around on the green to make my club selection a little more accurate. I often used the markers on the course to verify the accuracy of the GPS, and it is almost always right on target. I've only been off by a yard once or twice. While the GPS does use AA batteries, it easily lasts at least one round. This was a problem for me given that I have other electronics that use AA batteries. Therefore, I already have quite a few rechargeables. I usually put two extra in my bag for safe keeping, but I have only had to change the batteries once while on the course, but that was during a second round and after playing with the system while off the course. Another good feature that I like is that while I browse course on the system I can get the address and phone number right off the screen and call to set up a tee time. My thought process is typically, "this traffic sucks. I wonder if there are any course nearby where I can grab 9 or more holes in the next few hours. I know! I'll check the garmin GPS, browse for nearby course, check out the 1st few holes, determine if I like the course, call them up." I know I shouldn't be doing any of this while driving, but hey I love golf, and most of us who are golfers are strategic risk takers. There is always that hole on which we know we shouldn't pull out of driver, but we do it anyway, only to end up in the water, or searching through the bushes looking for a pro v1 ball, only to find a few other balls that aren't yours. All those other balls represent the people who shouldn't have pulled out the driver. I only wonder how many of them actually did the right thing and took that extra stroke.

Overall, I am very pleased with the Garmin G3. The score taking, accuracy, pin location, look, fell, durability, and did I mention the tough screen. The touch screen is perfect. I definitely think that I got my money's worth.

If I had to change any features, it would be the ability to input the clubs that I use for each hit and keep track of my club distances to get an accurate idea of which club I should be using and when to use it.

Most importantly, go out, buy it, enjoy it, and have fun.

3-0 out of 5 stars Double Bogey G3, August 7, 2010
I own several other Garmin products, Nuvi 650, Nuvi 1350 and Garmin 305 so I expected more from this product. I saw the other reviewers comments about the screen being dim and hard to read, but figured it can't be that bad, but it is. Comparing it side by side with a friends Golf Buddy the G3 screen is very dim. It's easy enough to use and it is accurate. The touch screen is sensitive and if I carry it in my pocket, the next time I refer to it, it is often on some other screen or trying to measure an unintended location. Bottom line, it's OK but I am wishing I had taken a closer look at some of the less expensive units on the market that will do the same thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Golf made easy, July 14, 2010
Bought this for my husband for father's day. I liked the fact that there is no annual fee however, we learned quickly that they may not be a good thing. My father has the golf caddy and can down load any golf course. The two of them went golfing and the Garmin only had one or two VT golf courses listed. It boasts of having over 10,000 courses but, it doesn't appear to have the course we need. They golfed in RI and ran into the same thing. So before you buy just make sure the golf course you will be playing at are offered. Otherwise all the features are fantastic but, it may not be worth forfeiting the annual fee for the ease of not having to download the courses prior to playing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Think About What You Really Want!, June 21, 2010
I did a lot of research on golf GPS devices and finally settled on the Garmin Approach G3. I couldn't be happier with my decision. What I would recommend to anyone searching for a golf GPS device is to ask yourself: "What do I really want in a GPS device"? This is what helped me decide on which GPS device to buy. The main reason I purchased the G3 Approach is it is one of the easiest devices to use. When out on the course, the last thing I wanted to do is fool around with a device. I wanted something very simple to use. The Approach is just that! No buttons, no sequences, just touch the screen for what you want.

The distance to the pin is always displayed in the upper right hand corner. If the pin is up front or in the back of the green, just touch the upper right hand corner to zoom in on the green. Touch the location of where the pin is on the green, and the display automatically gives you the new distance to the pin! Touch anywhere on the fairway, and the unit instantly gives you distances to that point. Nothing could be easier! The unit also measures any shot very easily. Touch "Measure Shot" on the screen and begin walking to your ball. The Garmin begins counting the yardage as you walk! It's also very easy to keep score for each person in your foursome. The batteries last two rounds. Rechargeable batteries are highly recommended. The unit is waterproof, so don't worry about it getting wet! It fits easily in your front pocket. I also bought the Garmin clip for my golf bag, but haven't tried that yet.

Some reviews put down the Garmin because they said it was hard to see in the sunlight. However, I have not seen where that's true. Just a little tilt to the screen one way or the other and it becomes easily viewable, even in direct sunlight. I've used other GPS devices but this one is just plain simple and easy to use. Only the Garmin and the Golf Buddy have no annual subscription fees. I chose the Garmin because I love the way is shows you a very clear visual of the whole fairway when standing on the teebox. The Golf Buddy doesn't do this. Also, most GPS devices use an installed rechargeable battery, so if it goes dead, you have no way to replace the battery on the course until you get home to recharge it again! The Garmin uses 2 AA batteries, so I always keep an extra set in my bag. If the batteries die during the round, just pop in two new ones. All data for that round will be saved if you need to change the batteries. One click of the on/off button and it shows you the amount of battery power left. I looked at several other GPS devices: Golf Buddy, Callaway, and the SkyCaddie, but the Garmin just seemed the simplest and easiest to use. And once you get out on the course, you'll realize how important this becomes!

Only one Con about this item that I can think of: At the end of the round, it gives you your score in how many over par your are (ex. +8). I would prefer it actually gave you an actual number (ex. 80).

I would definitely recommend this product to a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Garmin Approach G#, July 31, 2010
Shortly after I got my Garmin
approach I discovered that one of the courses I play wasn't on the instrument. I called support and had to wait about 1/2 hour. That was bad but once I got someone to talk to things improved greatly. That person even spoke english!. She was very nice and quite helpful. It turned out that they were just about to update the program and when they did about 3 days later I automatically got an e-mail to download the updated version. I'd heartily recommend this product for all golfers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, May 25, 2010
I upgraded from a Igolf Neo golf gps to the Garmin Approach G3. Overall, I'm very impressed with 2 weeks solid usage. I did purchase the Onpar golf gps but returned it. Has a slight learning curve, but when playing with a group of players you don't have the time to select all the features.
However, the G3 approach is fantastic. No more fees to pay and no downloading courses. Just turn it on, give it 3-5 minutes and pulls all local courses into the G3. It would of been nice to get the G5 Approach because it can tell you how the average distance you hit each club. Also, getting you greens, fairways hit and putts. Nice way to track scores. However, for the extra $100 I felt the G3 was a better fit. $299.00 at Golfsmith with a $50 gift card.

Pros: No downloads!
touchscreen
water-resistant
keeps score for you and 4 players.
shot distance capabilities
golf course previews on course you haven't played
solid Garmin technology
no annual fees, why would you pay to get courses?

Cons: No lithium-ion rechargeable battery, you need to buy AA rechargeable and keep spares.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Expected!, November 6, 2010
Have played a dozen rounds or so, and I love my new Garmin. At first it didn't have a particular course pre-loaded, but after downloading the quarterly update there it was! The Garmin was better than expected since some said the screen was not bright enough. But I have had no significant problems reading the unit in any lighting condition.

Some have said they don't like that AAA batteries have to be used, but I believe that perceived negative is actually a feature! (since carrying spares takes care of forgetting to recharge ). Running out juice on the golf course was an issue with my old Sky Caddy. With the Garmin, rechargable AA DuraCells last a little more than a full round. Have found that Energizer (Ultimate) Lithiums last about 7 rounds. (comes out to about $.60 round for the Lithium option).

*****************************
Pros:
Easy pop out AA batteries with spares in golf bag = unit not dying in the middle of the round
Ease of use
Garmin reliability
No annual fees
Ruggedized and water-proof construction
Simple glance to get distances to bunkers, front, middle, and back of green
One touch zooming feature for targets and the green.
Don't have to hassle with battery chargers if Lithiums are used
Huge memory that holds 1000's of courses...most pre-loaded.
Quarterly free updates to golf course database

Cons:
none

5-0 out of 5 stars Garmin Approach G3, October 22, 2010
Just turn it on and you are ready to go. Locates bunkers and ponds and give distances to them. Touch screen feature to check the distance to any location and move the pin on the green are very helpful. Seems to be accurate. Automatically moves to the next hole. Only disappointment was that all courses were not loaded when my G3 arrived - had to get on line and download my home course. And it won't hit the shot for you. I really enjoy my G3.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Device, May 30, 2010

Bike Mount (Replacement) ... Read more

Reviews

4-0 out of 5 stars Mount is poorly made to protect such an expensive computer, November 1, 2008
I agree with the other 1 star reviews. The mounting clip breaks after only about 3 months of use when taking the unit on and off your bike. Other people in my bike club have reported similar results and have had $500 Edge 705 units fly off their bike while riding!!! Come on, Garmin, get your act together and make something out of metal that is more durable. The 705 computer is absolutely great, but it is a travesty that it is attached with a 10 cent piece of plastic that can potentially cause the loss of the enitre computer while on the road!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars If you have more than one bike you need this., June 5, 2007
If you got the Edge GPS, then you already got a mount with that - actually enough parts for mounting on 2 bikes. They work just fine. But, (and thanks to the person who posted the picture) this accessory kit doesn't come with the same parts as the Edge did, as you might expect. It only has one mounting clip so it only good for one more bike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good as a replacement, August 16, 2007
I bought this as a replacement for the mount that was included with my edge after the plastic tab broke off. The mount is not assembled, so it can be put together for mounting on either the handlebars or the stem. This comes exactly as shown in the pictures and without any instructions, but it's easy to figure out how to assemble. I don't know what the big rubber piece is for though as my original one didn't come with that.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Poorly Designed!, October 1, 2009
I have now gone through FOUR of these Garmin Edge handlebar mounts. My Edge 705 flew off the bike on one of the mounts while riding down the road as the little tab suddenly broke during a cold weather ride. So I installed a second one that came with the 705. That one broke inside of 2 months. I had 2 more from my old 305, so I put another one on..that one broke, and I put the last one on yesterday, and it broke today. This is ridiculous. They all break at the same point, the small plastic tab that you push down to release the Edge from the mount, breaks. It's a very poor design as all the force is applied at the hingepoint of this tab, which is the weakest point in the design and subsequently breaks. And what is really bad, is that Garmin wants $13.50 for a replacement.

I called Garmin Support today about this and spoke to Steven at Customer Service. Told him the problem and he said that he'd had the same problem with his own 705 mount breaking at the same place. He said that Garmin had had some problems with early mounts and that they had come out with a new mount that was more rigid. But when I asked if I could send them 2 of the broken ones for a replacement, he backpedaled saying that the tab was still on the new mounts and that they had strengthened a different area that was causing a problem, not the tab (which still breaks). I said, so will you send me 2 new ones?? Nope...not for free. So I'm out, 4 of these poor mounts and if I want to put the Edge on any of my 3 bikes, then I need 3 of them...at a cost of $13.50 each plus shipping. The Garmin guy tells me "well it's a small plastic tab and if you put a lot of force pushing down on it, it's going to break cause it's plastic!!". I said, look, I've gone through 4 of them, after the first one, I thought the same thing, and now I barely push down on the release tab and it doesn't matter...the hinge of the tab is the weak point of the design and it's going to break. Then he says " you probably shouldn't use the Edge in cold weather, as plastic breaks in cold weather". Where do they get these people???

Kind of gives me a bad taste in my mouth for Garmin.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wish I could buy another mount, August 12, 2009
Same as the other folks, 3 months into riding mount broke off. Grant it some of the roads I ride on are pretty rough, but I almost lost this because I didn't realize it was missing till I was a mile down the road, had to backtrack and found it in the middle of the road. THANK GOD No cars ran over it. Disappointed in Garmin for such a cheap mount like other viewers, might be beneficial for you to buy 2 or 3 in anticipation of the breaking mount.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than original equipment., September 4, 2009
This unit is much more solid than the one that came with the computer. Obviously, Garmin made some engineering changes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Handle bar mount doesn't handle much stress - don't waste your $, May 18, 2009
I bought this replacement mount in early April. Less than 2 months later, the clip on the mouht that holds the GPS to it broke, just like the original.

They may make a decent GPS, but this doesn't say much for Garmin's accessories. A real rip-off.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good mount, October 9, 2008
This mount definately does the job it's intended for. The nice thing about this is that it comes with what you need to mount to either the handlebar or the stem along with some pads to adjust the angle. It works very well. My only complaint which knocked it down one star is that the tab to release the Garmin unit can break easily if you're not careful. That's how I ended up ordering a replacement. Other than that, it works great.

3-0 out of 5 stars Works, for a while., December 6, 2010
If your are a Garmin edge owner than you no doubt are familiar with this little mount. This small plastic mount with it's even smaller plastic clip, is all that keeps your expensive gps attached to your bike. While the design works and feels solid when attached, the design does have a fatal flaw. Its that darn plastic flex clip that breaks over time. When this clip breaks, there is nothing to secure your edge gps. I have looked high and low for a redesigned or third party product that could replace this part, but have not had any luck. This kit included only one mounting clip , so it is not a bad idea to keep an extra on on hand for when (not if) it breaks. The price has come down a bit since I originally began buying these.

1-0 out of 5 stars An embarrassment to a great bike computer, October 16, 2009
I'm both a frequent rider and consummate gadget freak. I love the 705. It is a superbly-designed product. When you get past the premium price, the ability to track everything and to connect to ANT+ devices (like my PowerTap) make it indispensable.

The problem is that whoever designed the bike mount should (literally) be fired. I've gone through three in just the past year. I vowed after the first one broke that I'd be more careful, but it doesn't help. If you take your computer off every day (to record its voluminous data capture), the mount will eventually break. And when I say eventually, I mean about three months. That's what I've averaged.

If it weren't frustrating enough that they break, it's just plain a pain to get the computer off the bike! You have to push and wiggle, all while depressing the flimsy tab, and eventually, the computer pops out, with the mount often cutting into your hand in the process.

Not sure how to get through to Garmin on this, but FIX YOUR MOUNT!

Until then, I will keep buying new mounts. Just ordered three for my two bikes (I cannibalized the last good one off my other bike). $14 each. Sigh. I love incenting them to NOT fix the mount! ... Read more

Also available in Men's Red

Train Indoors or Out
In the gym or on the road, FR60 tracks all your workout data, including time, heart rate, calories burned, lap times and averages, and more. FR60 boasts advanced training tools, such as training alarms and Virtual Partner, which lets you race against a virtual training partner to improve your performance.

At the heart of its success is FR60's wireless ANT+ technology, which allows it to connect to other ANT+ compatible devices, like the included heart rate monitorn and foot pod, or even ANT+ compatible fitness equipment.

Go for Distance
With the ANT+ seamless wireless link, FR60 connects to the optional wireless foot pod, which tracks your distance and speed effortlessly, both indoors and out. Using advanced accelerometer technology, the foot pod collects and sends precise data about your movements, gathering distance and speed data that is 98 percent accurate, right out of the box.

4-0 out of 5 stars Garming FR60 GPS Not Really.. HRM Yes Sir., November 8, 2009
I Purchased the Garmin FR60 Bundle W/ Foot pod to Help me learn run pacing and for Triathlon Training. My old HRM just gave up but the chest strap works still works with most of the equipment at the gym without the watch. But there is no need since I have the FR60 but there are some "Issues" to deal with first. The Look and function is very good. However since I'm new to Garmin the menu's took a little getting used to and programing was a little bit difficult, but from what I've heard this is typical. Once you do get the menus down it's very intuitive and similar to other models they offer. The other reason I picked the Garmin unit is the Manufactures of other HRM's in this price range had non replaceable batteries. IE you had to send them back to the factory to be replaced. This is something I really wasn't fond of since I use mine daily. This unit fits nicely on the wrist and can be used as a "Sport Watch" and no-one would know you a Workoutaholic if they didn't know you.

Packaged in the box were the Owners manual and Watch, Foot-pod, HRM-Strap, USB Ant+ stick. There is no software to speak of since it's self loading on the Ant+ Stick. You also need to set up an account with Garmin to download your data and analyze it. BEWARE: Firmware Updates will erase your data and settings on the watch and they need to be set back up!!! There is no Off-line option to review your data :-(. This means you upload your data to Garmin then re-download it in Excel or TCX format then upload it into a training website like Training Peaks(Online) or Sport Tracs(Stand Alone Runs Offline). Granted it takes only a few minutes to do but is a little bit of a pain. Also when uploading you have the option to leave the data on your watch for you to review or when the download is completed the workout date is erased. It takes a little bit of faith to let your data go. When setting up your account you can set up your Heart Rate zones based on age and resting Heart Rate. You can add as many zones as you see fit. For Simplicity I just use 5, now when you look at your data though the amount of time in each zone is not displayed on the website on your HR Graph. The graph look really good but the only data given is Avg HR, Max HR. It would be nice if the time in each Zone was given as well. My old HRM(Which was $40) displayed these with times and % in zones on the watch and didn't need to upload the data. Other data that is Give is Workout Time, Avg Speed/Pace, Max Speed/Pace, Avg Cadence, Max Cadence. All good Data that is essential for training/racing purposes.

For Running the Foot Pod Sensor tracks steps, pacing and speed very accurately out of the box. Pick a spot on your shoes to mount the sensor and pair the device with your FR60, I did a test run at the track and it was spot on after a 1 mile test run. You can either adjust the stride length automatically or manual adjust. There are supposed to be shoe on the market that the Foot-pod will mound directly into the sole under the shoe insert. I believe Nike makes one. Mounting in the laces are just fine for me. The advantage the FR60 has is It can be used indoors without a GPS signal. The combination of the Foot-Pod and HRM gives you very accurate Calorie data when running of a treadmill. I have found that most treadmills are off speed wise to the FR60, for example I warm-up at 10:00 indicated pace on the treadmill and my FR60 shows anywhere from a 9:20-9:35. No a big deal since I'm logging the information for later retrieval.

Since I Cycle I use the GSC-10 Speed and Cadence Sensor for my Bicycle. Same setup as the Foot-Pod with regard to pairing. This can be used indoors as well during winter months on Stationary Fluid Trainer or Rollers to track speed and distance. The downside is NO FREAKING Odometer!!!!!!! what was Garmin Thinking. You get everything else, Distance, Current Speed, Calories, Avg/Max Speed, Avg/Max Cadence, Time, Lap/Distance/Time/AvgSpeed/MaxSpeed/LapCalories, blah blah blah... I had to add my old Speed sensor back to the front wheel to capture Overall ODO distance.

Functionality: The FR60 is pretty easy to set up once you figure out the page layout and logic. You get your data input(AGE, HEIGHT, WEIGHT, ACTIVITY Class(read the manual for this one) into the devise under SETTINGS/USER. After pairing your footpod and Speed/Cadence sensor, You can then set up your "TRAINING PAGES" This is where the FR60 really shines. You can take all the data collected from either your Run/Bike/Other and display up to 3 pieces of data on the screen and have 5 pages to display the data. You can have one screen for Time only and another for Distance and Pace then another for Heart Rate, HR Zone, Calories and so one. If only One line of info is displayed it fits almost the entire screen and gets smaller from there. the Dot Matrix LCD Screen is fairly easy to read at a glace either running or biking.

The FR60, HR Chest Sensor, Foot-pod are all waterproof to 3 Meters so they can be worn during the swim portion of Triathlons or during off road runs that cross creeks or during Steeplechase events. I've worn mine during the swim of a sprint Triathlon. For Triathlon the F60 is not Tri Friendly meaning you cannot change sports easy. I just set it up in Other and Just Press Lap during transitions in and out. Since I'm only concerned with overall time and HR. The FR60 can be set up to scan for Pods so it will pick up either sensor when you press the lap button during T1 or T2. If your set on sport specific Timing press and hold the MODE button and you can then change sports.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly excellent, December 5, 2009
I was drawn to the Garmin FR60 as it represents one of the least expensive full-featured heart rate monitors which can download training data to a computer. Since I do a good chunk of my training indoors on a treadmill, particularly in the winter, a GPS based system was not required.

My experience with the Garmin FR60 has been mostly positive. First, it's important to point out this watch is sold in at least 3 different bundles. There's the basic heart rate monitor only (all black watch), this version (red) which includes an ANT+ Stick used to download training data to a computer, and a more expensive version which includes a foot pod for measuring distance. When shopping for this watch, be sure you know which bundle you're ordering, I had to return the black version after ordering it without realizing it didn't include the ANT+ Stick.

The watch itself is a nice form factor, smaller than the large Polar S120 I'm replacing. Initial setup is easy, the included quickstart guide walks you through the procedure in straightforward fashion. The screen is easy to read, and navigation between menus and setting adjustments is easy. My only gripe with the watch is the placement of the Lap/Split and Start/Stop buttons. Quite simply, these should be reversed. The Start/Stop button is a large white button centered just below the display area, it's quite easy to press. The Lap/Split button is a small button on the side of the watch and takes a firm touch to trigger. When I'm running hard, it's takes a bit of concentration to record a lap, certainly more than I'd like. I expect I'll get more comfortable with this as I use the watch more.

The heart rate strap fits comfortably and is in most ways quite similar to my familiar Polar T31 chest strap with one important exception, it has a door through which I can replace the battery. The Polar strap has to be sent back for a new battery, and a replacement strap is $30-40. The replacable battery on the Garmin is a nice upgrade. As for function, the heart rate is recorded accurately and I've yet to see it interrupted by interference. Of note, the Garmin HR strap does not appear to be compatible with any treadmill I've seen, the watch still records HR accurately, but the treadmill will not display HR on screen. Polar seems to have cornered the market here.

Once a workout is complete, recorded heart rate data can be downloaded to a computer via the ANT+ Stick, a simple USB stick. Once setup, the download process is quite easy. Garmin offers two options for logging your data, the desktop-only Garmin TrainingCenter (which must be downloaded) or the web-based Garmin Connect. I've tried them both, and find the TrainingCenter software easier to use, particularly when viewing heart rate data graphs. If you spring for the footpod, the software will correlate HR, time, and distance. Workout notes can be entered, making this a nice all-around training log. It seems like development is on-going for the web-based Garmin Connect, so it's possible it will get improved features in the future. Note that the data can be exported from either program as XML-based TCX files which can be processed into Excel sheets (with third party software) or uploaded to other third-party training log software. If you're comfortable with the format, the TCX files can be edited directly to include data not recorded by the watch (distance if not measured by the foot pod, calories burned, etc).

Overall this setup has allowed me to do exactly what I had hoped; accurately record my heart rate over training runs and download it to a computer for review and analysis and comparison with previous workouts. I'm excited enough about the system that I'll be adding the SDM4 Footpod to record distance as well. If the Lap and Start/Stop buttons we're swapped, it would be the perfect non-GPS based running tool, and an excellent value as one of the least expensive heart rate monitors which can download to a computer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just plain AWESOME !, January 10, 2010
I have been using this watch/footpod/HR monitor now for about 6 months and I absolutely love it. It is like having a coach. I am a fairly new runner and completed a half marathon this past spring and loved it. I decided to get more serious about my training and run a fall marathon. The longer runs were really a pain because I'd have to get in my car and drive the route each time....and then remember them as I ran . And of course if an unpredicted problem came up (angry dog, suspicious person, etc) I couldn't really deviate without blowing the run and not knowing how far I'd gone . And also......my paces were off. I was running my recovery runs and easy runs WAY too fast. And then at the time I was using an old treadmill that was totally off pace, so my faster runs---well, who knows how consistent they were. I needed help !

And I got it. Everything fell completely into place after getting the watch. It basically sets ITSELF up,too. So easy to use. The Garmin website is awesome. I understand they had bugs at first, but I have encountered none of that. I can look at a run and see my heart rate and pace on a graph. I can also see reports on mileage, etc. And the ability to see cadence per mile is cool, too. I have learned so much by having all this data. It has made me a much better runner. I pay attention to heart rate now, too.

And of course it is wonderful to be able to track my distance and pace as I run outdoors. I can just take whatever direction I want now....I feel totally free and spontaneous out there. And I use it on the treadmill, too. Way more accurate than the treadmill as far as pace is concerned.
I also run in a lot of trees, which is why I avoided the GPS version. The footpod works everywhere and GPS will lose way points in heavy trees or in a city with tall buildings.

It coached me to a 4:14:01 first marathon finish this past October. It is really accurate and I have never calibrated it. Although I plan to go to an indoor track this week and do that this week before I start training seriously again (I wore it in the marathon and it tracked the the distance as 26.58---not bad over that many miles with no additional calibration, but still.....).

I highly recommend this product to anyone who would like to be able to monitor their training. It is all they say and a lot more. I plan to try to qualify for Boston this spring and I know my chances are much improved with my Garmin FR60 (yes, all my friends are definitely tired of hearing how much I love the watch!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally a good fitness watch for petite women!, September 6, 2009
I just received my FR60, and my first impression is that I love this product. I've had to wait for it for five months because it was not on the market as yet; however, on the up side this provided me with a substantial discount, so I have no complaint in this regard. I have had much difficulty finding a good fitness watch that would fit my small wrist. The FR60 fits nicely without being bulky. Compared to my Mio Petite, the heart rate display is much easier to retrieve and most reliable, characters displayed are easier to read, and buttons are more ergonomic. The main difference is that Mio Petite had no chest strap, and the dual pressure button system was quite awkward and unreliable. The lavender color on the FR60 is nice and discrete -- thanks, however, for not making it a hot pink or orange! On the down side, the product is so new that it is not yet supported by the Web site. This deadline is a big failure on the part of Garmin!!! Then tech support is only open at certain hours during the week, and there are no Q&As for FR60 as yet on the Web site. Once I manage to have access to my data online, I intend to order the foot pod, which should be a natural add-on to this product. Despite my initial frustrations, I expect to really enjoy this watch and I highly recommend it to any active woman with petite wrists.

4-0 out of 5 stars Garmin FR60 HRM, August 29, 2009
Awsome product for new runners. Purchased for wife's birthday(I am a romantic at heart). She is far from tech savvy as am I but basic functions simple enough to utilize without delving too deeply in manual. Also purchased the seperate foot pod that provides more detailed info and feedback on runs. As time goes by I can see her utilizing more of the functions on the watch and the website but for now viewing her results after a run give her the motivation to get back out for the next time. The Lilac color gives product more of a feminine flavor as opposed to a slimmed down man's watch.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, January 7, 2010
I just got the watch in the mail today and so far it seems to be a good watch. One thing I would say is to get the food pod because otherwise I don't think it would do much good. You need the foot pod in order to see pace or distance or even calories burned. I really wish it monitored calories without the foot pod. If you're mostly interested in calories burned and heart rate I would recommend a basic Polar watch.
I'm looking forward to using it as I train for a half marathon this year. It will be nice to see how fast I'm really going and what my distance is when I'm outside.

5-0 out of 5 stars love it, April 5, 2010
I just purchased the FR60 in lilac for myself (and the men's version for my husband). Currently we are using them for high intensity interval training. The set-up was a breeze. After researching several watches I chose these based on features, price, and brand. A must for us was to be able to upload the data to our computer and graph our heart rates for the intervals. Once we set up this feature using the ANT stick (which was a three step process completely outlined on the garmin website), we were able to do this. It's awesome. After a workout I just walk into our office and within 30 seconds a box pops up on my computer asking if i'd like to see the data online.

We chose these Garmin watches over similarly functioning and priced Polar watches due to the wireless capability. For the polar watches you have to buy an additional module that you physically have to place the watch on to upload the data. I know it sounds lazy, but I prefer to just leave my sweaty watch on my wrist!

Lastly, I was concerned if the watch would fit me correctly since i have rather petite wrists. No problems there. Yes, it's bigger than my normal day-to-day watch, but i like having the larger screen to glance on while I workout.

4-0 out of 5 stars Liking it more the longer I own it, June 12, 2010
I've used the watch for 2 months, and have updated this review several times.

Setup: If you're not very good with hardware and techno gadgetry, you might not find the owner's manual to be very helpful, and complete setup very frustrating. However, search "Garmin FR60" on YouTube and you'll find some great instructional vidoes, by Garmin, on how to set up the watch. These videos include screen shots. By the way, you should know the owner's manual is available online only, but you can save and print if you must.

Use: Again, the owner's manual wasn't very helpful on how to actually go use the watch, and go through the "pages." But it is pretty easy if you're not afraid to hit some buttons. Take it on a couple test runs before you actually need the watch.

Foot Pod: no problems at all. It's smaller than I thought it would be, and is not noticeable at all on my shoe.

The ANT stick: once you have everything paired and you've signed on to the website (watch YouTube if you're techno-impaired), the stick does exactly what they say. You get the watch near it, and it wirelessly gets your data off your watch. I have not found how to dump the data off the watch. The software is run/stored on Garmin's website (you create a free account--very easy and quick)....oh, very cool. Goals, history, multiple sports...great great great.

Pace/Mileage Accuracy: Be sure to follow the instructions for calibrating the watch. It's so EASY! And very very accurate!!! I didn't want the GPS watch because reviews have said that 1). the GPS can sometimes take several minutes to find the satellite signal and 2). they lose the signal if they're in trees. With the FR60, you have none of those problems.

Heart Rate Accuracy: 100%

Heart strap: I'm usually like the Princess and the Pea, but I found the monitor to be so comfortable I dind't know it was there. And don't buy this "I'm sooooo little the strap is too big" that you might see on other posts. It fits my 11-year-old skinny son, so shut up.

Design: I have a small wrist, and the watch doesn't look bulky. The strap could easily fit a pre-teen girl's wrist, as well as larger-boned women. My husband scams it once and awhile to check his own heart rate, and the watch fits him. The strap is a little stiff, so I'm hoping that will loosen up, though if it doesn't, the watch was comfortable enough.

I had to give product only 4 stars because I think they really fell down on the set-up and usage instructions, which may be a problem for some. Otherwise, I LOVE THIS WATCH!!!!!!! Once you're set up and ready to go, this watch should get 10+ STARS.

2-0 out of 5 stars A nice HRM, but loses the zones and the strap broke - TWICE, May 13, 2010

EDIT - 27 Jun 2010 - I have now broken a 2nd rubber piece that holds the wrist strap in place. This is a really nice watch with great functionality, but I can no longer recommend a $150 watch with a strap that breaks so easily.

(My original review) This is a very nice HRM. I like the HR strap. It works very reliably. It synchs with my Garmin Edge 705. It's nice to be able to download my cycling data from the 705 along with my running and gym data from the FR60 to the same website and keep track of all my exercise data in 1 place. It is not too unsightly and I wear it as my "everyday" watch.

A HUGE PLUS and in my case, a decision maker - you can replace the battery on the FR60 watch yourself. My last HRM was a Polar and I had to send it in every few months for a new battery. It cost me $20 and a few weeks of having no HRM each time! I will never go back to Polar until they make the batteries replaceable.

A big negative - Many gyms do not yet have ANT+ exercise machines, so you can't "synch" to the machine like you can with a Polar.

I broke the rubber piece that holds the wrist strap in place after the clasping it. I contacted Garmin and you cannot buy a replacement for this part. My local watch shops didn't have anything for this purpose either. Garmin did offer to replace the entire watch, but I had lost my receipt. So, KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!

A piece of advice if you want to use it along with other Garmin products to update Garmin Connect. You need to log out of your Windows profile and then log back in to switch between devices. For some reason I can't upload from both devices back to back. So, I update from the FR60, log out of windows, and then log back in, connect my Edge 705, and it works perfectly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Gym Rat Needs One, April 26, 2010
I first purchased the Forerunner 305 only to find out it didn't track calories burned by heart rate alone so I ponied up for the FR60 thinking I would use it for weightlifting only. I was wrong!!! After using it a couple of times on the treadmill indoors I decided to take it outside. I have found it to be easier to use while running and more enjoyable due to the smaller size. Maybe, maybe, maybe if I did more trail running or running along routes I didn't know the 305 would have been better so I could retrace a route. Living in Richmond though and knowing most of the roads from driving I need time and distance (running and biking) plus the ability to go from the track to the weight room and not miss a beat or calorie, literally. The FR60 does that for me. Like I said "Every gym rat needs one." The 305 is great and if I only ran or biked outside it would fit the bill but I run indoors and out, lift weights and bike outdoors so I needed one piece of equipment capable of fulfilling all my needs and the FR60 is it. Side note, you will probably have to calibrate foot pod for best results. ... Read more
