4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Phone System For Basic Needs, December 31, 2009
This is a very nice cordless phone system from Vtech. I got this model to replace a model with which I had become very frustrated. However, I am happy to report that this system has met my expectations which are:

    * DECT 6.0 - to avoid interference with wireless internet
    * Handset usability
    * Easy to use answering machine
    * Able to use both handsets on the same call

The call quality from this system is great. My previous system was on the 2.4 GHz frequency, and was always fuzzy. However that's not the case with this Vtech model. The caller on the other end is comes through crisply with ample volume.

On my old system, the "Talk" button was raised such that if you tried to hold the phone with your shoulder, you would almost always hang up on the call. I found this very aggravating, but the Vtech handsets pose no issues here. I find the controls fairly intuitive too. I have not had to consult the detailed user manual in order to do what I want and need to do.

I may be a bit behind the times on this, but this is the first phone system I've had where all setup is done from the handset. Have you ever been frustrated with the buttons on answering machine bases that do different things based on how long you hold them down? This is gone in this system. The handset has an easy to navigate menu system that mimics what I remember from my older Nokia cellphones. Playback can be controlled from the base station, but that is the only thing it does. You can also playback messages from the handset.

The final thing I was looking for might seem a little odd, but you won't notice it until you need it. On my old system, only one handset could be active on a call at any time. That is not the case with this Vtech system.

I don't ask my phone system to do a whole lot, but I do want it to do these things very well. I'm very pleased with this system from Vtech. If your needs are similar to mine, I think you will be too. Please feel free to ask questions in the comments section below.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone!, May 18, 2009
It's easy to program, has good reception and lots of cool features. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because in the Philadelphia area where I live, you must enter the area code for local calls. When paging through the missed calls, it doesn't show the area code. So if you try and hit dial from there, it won't work. You have to just memorize the number and manually dial it, assuming what the area code is. This may not be an issue for a lot of people, but it's a pain for us.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's good, but no headset jack, December 10, 2009
Overall I was pretty satisfied with the product.

The only reason I give it a lower rating is because to my surprise it didn't have a jack for a headset. If you use it for work, want an ergonomic product so you don't hold a phone with your shoulder or your hand, it's very important.

If you use the phone for longer conversations, be it for business or pleasure, a phone with a headset jack for convenience and health reasons is a must, and this phone doesn't have it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome phone., September 24, 2009
Very good sound, excelent battery life, user friendly, usefull features...
This phone is way beyond good.

It is easy to use, small, light. When you program the date or the directory on
the Phone #1 the #2 gets updated as well. The intercomm feature is very nice,
the speaker sounds really nice and loud. You don't lose signal eventhough you
are very far from the base. The voicemail is very easy to set up and messages
    are easy to recall.

I made no mistake by choosing this phone, it is more than I was expecting. If
you buy one of this you won't regret it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice phone, June 19, 2009
The phone has been great. Does everything i need it to. Since i have crappy cell phone reception at home i have it forwarded to my home phone and the Vtech phone has worked great. The battery life is surprisingly good so far. Its been about a month and since i have 2 hand sets i let 1 discharge almost completely before i recharge it and use the other one. The one complaint I have is the phone is a bit slippery. Don't get a great comfy grip on it. Besides that it would have been nice if it had bluetooth capable. For the price though you can't beat the phone. I'd recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased!, January 11, 2010
I got this phone set for free using my credit card points. I love it! I like how much smaller the main base is than my previous phone. The clear buttons look cool and it is a light phone. The second base only needs plugged in; no phone jack is required. The built in answering machine works easily and turns off simply if you don't want to use it. When you put directory numbers in one, they are automatically added to the other phone. The other features like an intercom button to call the other phone, find handset button, and phone service voicemail alert are good additions. You are able to add up to 12 phones using just this one base!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor sound and rattling right out of the box. Also long beep-ring during calls., April 6, 2010
I just bought this phone 2 days ago and set it up for use in my home office. I immediately noticed that whenever I played back messages incoming or out going the speaker rattled noisely.

Also the incoming calls are not very clear and even hard to hear unless the message leaver speaks loud and clear every time. Part of this problem is that the volume does not go up enough.

Also, when you get an incoming call while on the phone it not only beeps right during your conversation cutting off words, but also has a short ring right after the beep making it even longer and worse.

Because there were so many good ratings for this phone I returned it in exchange for another one of the same model in hopes that it is not a defective or cheap model but that it was just this one phone that has a problem. I will find out within the next day or so and hope to leave a follow up to this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Phones, November 18, 2009
I have gone through many phones and so far these are the best. The reception is great even traveling far from the base. They are the perfect size. I love the speaker phone, and intercom options! This is a phone I tell my family that they have to have. You won't be disappointed!!!

    2-0 out of 5 stars great for 10 days, November 14, 2009
the phone worked great for 10 days. Good features, good sound quality, good price. Then it stopped hanging up. The handsets would turn off but the base would not hang up the line, preventing any calls from coming in or going out. Having a bad experience with Vtech quality in the past I had planned to give them one more chance. They blew their chance and I went back to Panasonic.

5-0 out of 5 stars VTech Phones, August 7, 2009
These phones are great. The sound quality is excellent. The range is better than my previous cordless phones, and they were pretty good. The battery life is very good. It uses NiMH instead of NiCd, so there should be no battery memory issues. They're just great. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but has its shortcomings, August 14, 2010
This phone system replaced an old Panasonic 5.8 GHz system we had had for a long time. Since we generally like Panasonic's brand reliability, we decided to get another Panasonic.

Here are my pros and cons when it comes to the KX-TG6533B:

    PROS:
    - Handsets are lightweight and feel well balanced and ergonomically well designed.

    - Display is very bright and readable with large letters and excellent contrast, so no squinting or getting out the glasses necessary.

    - Handsets can be given individual names such as "Office", "Living Room" etc. No more confusing which handset belongs where when several are out of their holders at the same time.

    - When new phone numbers are entered, these register immediately on the other handsets - no separate transfer of entries to other handsets is required.

    - Sound is very clear. We recently switched to a VoiP provider and calls made with the old phones had sound issues a lot of times. Now people comment how much clearer we sound. Big Plus.

    - We utilize the voice mail system our phone service provider offers, i.e. not the answering machine on the Panasonic base unit. One of the most useful features of this phone system is that after an initial set-up (entering the voice mail retrieval phone no., password, etc.) the phone periodically and automatically connects to that mailbox and informs us on the handset display that new voice mails have arrived. No need to separately dial into the mailbox anymore to find out whether or not we have new voice mails.

    - Every now and then we get calls in the middle of the night from people who had the wrong number or mis-dialed - annoying, to say the least. Enter this phone system's Silent Mode: It enables individual handsets to not ring during a specified period of time, e.g. at night. Very useful.

    - There is an option to activate Talking Caller-Id. When someone calls, the name of the caller is announced between rings. Another winner in my book, just as:

    - The Call Block feature to permanently store unwanted callers in a list on the phone. These callers then only receive a busy signal when they attempt to call.

    CONS:
    - Phone holders are generally lightweight and tend to move around a bit when handsets are taken out, or are being put back in. Not a major problem at all though, just wanted to mention it.

    - The system stores only 50 phone numbers. I don't think that is nearly enough in today's world where many people have home, work, and cell phones, i.e. 3 different numbers for one person would then need to be stored. I entered but a handful of my family and friends' numbers and in no time got dangerously close to capacity due to having several numbers for one person.

    - The ring tones/melodies are not very good or appealing. I was really unpleasantly surprised. The most annoying are way-too-fast, synthesizer-like renditions of classical pieces. Oh my, Panasonic - this could have been done so much better. These tones/melodies sound like they come from the beginning of this technology, about 20 years ago. Ugh.

    SUMMARY:
There are many features I really appreciate about this phone, nonetheless I am not totally blown away. After switching from 13-yr. old technology to this system I must say that I expected a bit more. It seems to me that Panasonic added a number of cool features but didn't improve on some of the older functions, such as phone book capacity and ring tones. But all in all still a good system.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth It!, September 12, 2010
Bought these new phones since ours were on their way out; also Panasonic. I did a tremendous amount of research before selecting this particular telephone and decided to purchase at Amazon as the price was the best. I have to say that these new Panasonic telephones are the best we've ever had. The clarity is outstanding. The instructions are very clear and understandable making it easy to set the phone up the way you want. The only thing so far that I wasn't sure I would like is the voice announcement of who's calling. It was a little annoying at first but we got used to it. Depending on who's calling the voice-activated system doesn't always pronounce the name correctly, which can sometimes lead to a good laugh so if anything, the phone provides some comic relief. I also appreciate that you can block any calls that say "Out of Area", "Private Caller", or anything that does not have a telephone number attached to it. We live in Arizona and sometimes get slammed with unsolicited calls and the blocking feature takes care of all of that. The phone is easy to hold and contains belt clips for carrying around. We appreciate the larger, easy to see display window. Bottom line, we really like these phones. The price was excellent and I would recommend them to anyone. Panasonic really does make a great product!

    4-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic phone w/digital answering machine - Mode KX-TG6533B DECT 6/0, August 11, 2010
Very good phone for the cost. Good value. Has all the perks once you figure out how to operate & find everything. I have 2 add'l extension phones & they work great. What I really like is the numbers displayed on the phone are large so I don't have to put on my glasses to see who's calling!! BUT, this phone has voice caller ID. Whatever description you put in your "phonebook" on the phone is what the voice caller ID says when that person calls. It's really cool! Plus, if you're on the phone and another call comes in, you can see who's calling by the caller ID description on the handset. I like that too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great feature set, but didn't live up to the expectation - caller ID not working consistently, November 3, 2010
This phone has great feature set and configuration is fairly straightforward. However, two of the selling points - Talking Caller ID and Call Block features, are useless because the phone (both base and all 3 handsets) is not able to detect Caller ID consistently, while my other phone in the house detect them properly (so, this is not a problem with my Caller ID service).

I did many tests. Even when calling from one same cell phone a few times, this phone would initially just ring and display no Caller ID in the first few tries. But, some later attempts may get it to display Caller ID.

Again, all my other corded and cordless phones were displaying Caller ID properly during all this time during testing.

So, sadly, there is either a design pr quality control issues with these batches of Panasonic phones (I had the same inconsistent Caller ID issue on another Panasonic answering system). If you depend on Caller ID for audio caller annoucement or Call Block, I'd suggest that you stay away from this phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent phones, especially the block feature, August 10, 2010
I bought these for my parents and they find them very easy to use. Big buttons and phone are big to hold against your neck/shoulder and they don't fall.

The best feature is the block feature. We were getting the same annoying sales call up to 5 times a day, I read the instruction book, and blocked the call. Not it only rings once and they hear a busy signal.

nice to have 3 phones in one to spread around the house

    5-0 out of 5 stars excellent price & product, August 30, 2010
New cordless phones arrived as promised.
Easy to connect and to get started quickly.
A bit upsetting when a voice was heard from
the handset announcing WHO was calling!!
Had to turn that feature off.
    Otherwise; excellent.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost everything I was looking for..., September 12, 2010
We had some pretty specific requirements for our phone: Three handsets, answering machine, backlit buttons, headset jack, and a shared phonebook. This phone seemed to be the only one that met our needs, and we've been happy with the purchase. The sound quality is good, and we like that certain handsets can have the ringer shut off (so as not to wake a sleeping toddler). There seems to be slight interference with our baby monitor, but not bad enough to warrant returning the product. The talking caller ID is nice if you're in the middle of something and don't want to run to see if it's a telemarketer or your mom calling you. The only think I wish this had was a display of how many messages are on the machine. I might come home and see the blinking message light, listen to the messages, and forget to tell my partner that her doctor's office called. This seems like it would be pretty easy to do, and I'm not sure why Panasonic skipped over that. Overall, though, it's a good phone, and as long as I remember to write down messages, we'll be all set.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic KX-TG6533B DECT 6 Plus w/ Answering System, August 29, 2010
Overall very good phones. Handsets are lightweight and sound is very clear. No problem with range inside or outside of home. Much louder and clearer than my previous Motorola 2.4G set.

Many useful features. The talking Caller ID is helpful, but sometimes mispronounces the incoming call. The answering system works well, but if there is a bad connection on your end or incoming call, it can be difficult to understand the message. Also, there is no visual notification of messages that have been played, but are still on the system. Still, gave it 5 stars because of the sound quality of the phones.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic 3 handset phone, August 24, 2010
I put the base in the basement, one on the first floor, and one on the second floor of my wood frame house. Sound quality is good on all handsets. Battery life is good and the batteries are AAA size. I don't use the answering machine. Set up was easy, I would recommend this phone.

This is a high quality, easy to use walk-around phone with several useful features. Convenient to add more stations as needed. Most useful to me are the speaker phone, and intercom capabilities. Hard to beat at this price.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Cordless add-on phone, July 9, 2009
Vtech DECT 6.0 White/Black Accessory Handset with Caller ID and Handset Speakerphone (CS6209)We purchased this unit to use as aremote extension for our Vtech cordless phone & answering machine set. It was easy to add on and works great, allowing access to the stored memory phone numbers as well as serving as an intercom between to other phone units. Since this extension handset is located upstairs it allows us to answer the phone and easily calll to any other handset to notify other family members, if the call is for them. It also serves as an intercom for easy communication from upstairs to downstairs and vice versa.

5-0 out of 5 stars VTEC phone, September 2, 2009
We read a review of this product in Consumer Report magazine and decided to give it a try. We liked the phone so we purchased additional extension phones from Amazon. We have used them for several weeks and are very pleased. The phones we replaced were GE which only lasted 4 years before the display died. We replaced the battery ($35) and that didn't fix the problem.

2-0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For, November 14, 2009
I wanted a system with multiple phones and without an answering machine. I've liked V-Tech in the past and this set looked good.

But there are a nummber of problems with it: (1) the phones don't hold time and date information; I program in the correct time and date and 3 hours later the time (at 4 pm) is 1:00 a.m. and the date is January 2008. (2) the phones are so light in weight they feel cheap. (3) There's no obvious indication of messages from my message service (like a blinking light) - I have to look at the phone screen to check for them. (4) I find the screen very hard to read - there's a kind of 3-D effect that blurs the letters and numbers. (5) clarity of sound varies greatly even with the same phone and location; reception isn't particularly good: eg, I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building and my daughter lives on the fourth floor; our conversations are often hard to interpret as they often fade in and out.

On the positive side: (1) the numbers and other buttons (menu, up & down choice movements, etc.) are raised and large enough to be easily used. (2) programming something (eg, names in the directory) only has to be done once and all the other phones are programmed as well. (3) When entering letters in the directory the first letter is capitalized and the remaining letters - until a space - are lower scale; saves as lot of repetitive moves.

If I had know this information before selecting this item I wouldn't have ordered it. It is inexpensive enough that I'll keep in until it dies and then get a much better one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Phones that Work, December 14, 2009
I bought the original base and 2 remote phones, They were so good I went to Amazon and bought 2 more remote phones. They work in the house without static just as if they were hardwired. They also work well out in my yard, no fade out at all. For the price of this product I am very impressed. I would recommend it to all my friends. There is one thing I would pay extra for, if vtech would include a wall mount for the remote phones, I love the one supplied with the Base Unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great!, November 24, 2010
Easy to install with my current base station. Has worked perfectly since I installed it. No problems at all. Please keep in mind this is an add-on extension. YOU NEED AN EXISTING BASE STATION. This unit will not work on its own without one.

5-0 out of 5 stars NICE PHONE, December 31, 2009
I NEEDED AN EXTRA PHONE TO PUT IN THE FAMILY ROOM. SO I GOT THIS AD-ON TO MY MAIN CORDLESS PHONE. IT WORKS PERFECT AND THE SET-UP WAS QUICK AND EASY. IT TOOK ABOUT 30 TO CONNECT TO THE MAIN PHONE SET.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone, October 13, 2009
The phone is easy to set up and use. Plug the phone into an outlet and push the locate button on the master phone. Life needs to be this simple.

5-0 out of 5 stars Punch a button, and voila!, November 6, 2010
I purchased the 2-phone system that this product expands last year, and after I moved last week, I realized I had to add a new handset. It turns out that my new neighbor in the next row house over has exactly the same phone system. First, the original phone system works like a charm despite the very close proximity to my neighbor's unit. Then, when I added this handset, it was as simple as plugging it in, waiting five minutes, and pushing the page button on the main base station of the original set. Bang! the new handset is recognized, still no problems with the neighbor, still the same reception. This is, quite simply, the best and most convenient phone system that I've ever had, and one of the very few examples in my life of newer technology making my life less complicated than it used to be.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value, October 10, 2010
I purchased this unit to replace on that was in service for about a year. The previous one developed display issues. It may have only needed a new battery, but it was more cost effective to replace it. The base unit found the new phone handset easily and shared all the stored data with the handset. I like this phone system because of its price, simplicity, and relatively large display and key buttons. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good set of phones, with some minor issues, December 17, 2010
I purchased these phones for my parents so that they don't have to keep getting up to get the phone - especially when they pick up the phone and no one is on the other end (telemarketer). The phones were easy to set up, nothing out of the ordinary. I just let the remote phones charge and plugged the main unit into their phone jack. The cordless phones have an eerie green light on them when when in use. The answering machine works well, nothing out of the ordinary. We don't have any issues with the range of the cordless phones either, plus each cordless phone comes with its own charger base so its easier to always have charged phones. As far as battery life, the phones are brand new so the batteries work well. The base unit has a number of presets and has the speakerphone feature, but it seems to cut out quite a bit it you have someone that talks loud or there are loud noises in the backround. The sound quality on the phones themselves is good though, even if you have a someone that talks softly.

All in all, the phones are an ok buy. I mainly got them because two cordless phones were included in the set, and they serve the purpose of what I needed them for. However, if the speakerphone is something you normally use then I would not get this unit. ... Read more
